The Ventura Jazz Sextet, Dave Brooks on drums
Live big band music by The Ventura Jazz Orchestra
There’s just nothing quite like the sound of live big band music. The sounds of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa and countless others. This music brings back all the glorious nostalgia that goes along with that great era. The Ventura Jazz Orchestra brings back those sounds along with songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Natalie Cole as well as more current artists like The Big Bad Voodoo Daddies.
The Ventura Jazz Orchestra has the full 18 pieces that make up that sound: five saxes (two tenor, two alto and one baritone), four trombones (including one bass trombone), four trumpets, and a rhythm section consisting of bass, piano, guitar, drums and vocal. If the arrangement calls for it, one or more of the sax players will play clarinet or flute.
The Ventura Jazz Sextet is a smaller version of the big band, with sax, trumpet, and trombone, along with bass, piano, drums and Donna Greene on vocals.
The Ventura Jazz Trio consists of piano, trombone and Lisa Pardini on vocals.
Just to give you a taste, we’ve posted some live music that we’ve recorded during various shows.
